Spot is a messaging and tracking
device/service. A subsidiary of Globalstar, it uses their satellite
network to send a few different message types: OK,
Tracking, Help or 911. It wasn't really designed for
boaters, but it's caught on and is now being promoted
heavily to the boating community. Unfortunately
they're trying to sell this thing through fear so
their tag is "Live to Tell About It" which is way over
the top. I’m sure it will save somebody’s life, just
like every other communication device, but it’s day to
day usefulness is a little less dramatic. That said,
it was a gift and it’s useful so we’re going to try to
use it to let you see where we are at any point in
time. Click below to give it a try. This is sort of an
experiment so let us know if you have any problems.
Spot only shows the messages it’s received during the
last seven days, so if we forget to push the button for
awhile, or we’re away from the boat, then just like
magic, we disappear. Don’t be alarmed, I’m sure we’re
somewhere!
